Plaid Cymru Councillor Nia Jeffreys from Porthmadog has been appointed as a new Cabinet Member by the Leader of Gwynedd Council, Councillor Dyfrig Siencyn.
Councillor Jeffreys, who represents the Dwyrain Porthmadog ward on Gwynedd Council will be taking up the role of Cabinet Member for Corporate Support services with responsibility for Corporate Support, Corporate Governance and Legal Services. Since being elected to Gwynedd Council, she has been a member of the democratic services committee and vice chair of the Council’s education and economy scrutiny committee.
Councillor Jeffreys went to Ysgol Eifionydd in Porthmadog but has since lived abroad, in London and Cardiff pursing a successful career in communications - working for private, public and voluntary organisations, before returning to Gwynedd. She began her career in the House of Commons working for Dafydd Wigley MP, before moving to British Gas, the Chwarae Teg charity and then Asthma UK Cymru as national director for Wales. She currently works for Natural Resources Wales.
She is a member of Porthmadog Town Council and local group CaruPort and is very active in promoting the town.
On her appointment, Councillor Nia Jeffreys said: “I was born and bought up in Gwynedd so it is a great honour for me to serve on the Cabinet. I look forward to the challenges ahead and promise to work tirelessly for the people of Gwynedd.”
Gwynedd Council Leader, Councillor Dyfrig Siencyn noted: “I’m delighted to welcome Councillor Nia Jeffreys as a member of the Plaid Cymru Gwynedd Council Cabinet. Nia’s skills and experiences will be a real asset for the team and her enthusiasm to ensure the best for the people of Gwynedd is obvious to everyone.”
The appointment follows the decision of Councillor Mair Rowlands to step-down from her role on the Council Cabinet after her appointment as Director of Bangor Students' Union.
