Plaid Cymru Gwynedd Councillors are delighted to congratulate, welcome and support Mabon ap Gwynfor as Plaid Cymru's Dwyfor Meirionnydd candidate for the next Assembly Election in 2021.

Plaid Cymru’s Gwynedd Leader, Dyfrig Siencyn said: “The competition to choose a candidate was an inspiration to Plaid members in Dwyfor Meirionnydd with six strong candidates sharing a passion to make a difference to the constituency communities and to contribute to the team that will govern Wales after the next election.

"Mabon ap Gwynfor gained the support of the members and I am delighted to welcome a young man with the passion needed to transform Wales."

Mabon worked in Dwyfor Meirionnydd for some years with former MP Elfyn Llwyd. The grandson of the late Gwynfor Evans, Plaid Cymru's first Member of Parliament and former President of the political party, he is married with four children. He has developed his skills as a Community and Town Councillor and is now a County Councillor for Llandrillo Ward.

Dyfrig Siencyn continued: “As Councillors here in Gwynedd, and as leader of Plaid Cymru’s Gwynedd led Council, we are proud to work with Mabon ap Gwynfor in his campaign to reach constituents here at Dwyfor Meirionnydd. He believes in promoting economic growth in rural areas, encouraging quality jobs within the constituency, developing skills and the quality of education for children and young people, promoting affordable home for communities and encouraging the use of the Welsh language, are all highly commended.”

Mabon ap Gwynfor said: “The welcome at grassroots level to my role as an Assembly candidate in Dwyfor Meirionnydd has been heartfelt. I am very grateful to Plaid Cymru’s Gwynedd Councillors for their support over the last few weeks, and I look forward to working with them during the coming months.

“I had the opportunity during the summer months to chat with many of the area's constituents at the Meirionnydd County Show, at the National Eisteddfod and in the area's villages and communities. I've started a programme to visit every community in the constituency and knocking on people's doors in every corner of Dwyfor Meirionnydd to listen to people's views and aspirations.

“My ambition is to create a fairer society, where people can enjoy living, working and socializing within prosperous communities. We must be ambitious for Wales, aim high and create an environment that benefits our residents. I look forward to continuing to discuss local issues with residents in the coming months.”
